Antara Asthaayi Dance focuses on fundamental techniques of kathak, rhythmic language (taal), Hindustani classical music, and story-telling. Inspired by the teachings of Pandit Chitresh Das, we strive to contextualize the traditions of classical training in contemporary settings, while maintaining their essence and integrity. Alongside developing focus and discipline, we pride ourselves in providing our students with a strong sense of community and heritage. Our philosophy is based on the guru-shishya parampara (guru-disciple tradition) where the teacher-student relationship is treated with the utmost reverence and mutual respect. Small classes ensure personalized teaching for each student as we navigate their individual journeys towards the ultimate goal of becoming a solo performing artist. Aspiring kathakas have opportunities to perform in community events and cultural programs held in partnership with local organizations.

Advanced students are invited to join the Antara Asthaayi Dance Ensemble to continue direct, intensive training with artistic director Antara Bhardwaj. Students will have the opportunity to perform in professional productions and continue their journey towards becoming solo artists.

Antara Asthaayi Dance not only got my daughter interested in kathak, but more broadly into Indian culture and classical arts. We love all the school events and celebrations like Janmashtami and Navratri that go a long way in providing a more wholesome experience, and make learning fun! Antara's love for dance and teaching is very apparent. We are so thankful for the wonderful community of kids and parents that we've gained!

My daughter has been with Antara Asthaayi Dance for the last 2 years, and we love the teachers and community. The school has a lovely "didi" (big sister) culture of mentorship between students. I love that she is learning about mythological stories in the context of art. Kathak as a dance form has given my daughter an opportunity to express herself creatively and boost her self-confidence through performing on stage.
